Reject Monetary Inducements for Your Voters Cards — Gov Adeleke to Osun Voters
Governor Ademola Adeleke raises alarm over a coordinated APC operation to buy voters' cards and extract PIN numbers across all 30 local governments ahead of the August 15 election, warning that the plot is designed to electronically disenfranchise Accord stronghold voters, and calls on INEC to investigate reports of insider collusion.
Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised alarm over an ongoing coordinated, illegal operation by the Osun APC to buy up voters' cards and extract PIN numbers to disenfranchise voters on August 15.
Citing multiple reports from across all 30 local governments and the Area Office, the governor accused APC agents of monetarily inducing the public to part with their voters' cards, with the intent of electronically disenfranchising such voters and manipulating the outcome of the August 15 polls.
The governor warned that APC agents are specifically targeting local governments with large Accord Party followership, extracting PIN numbers from voters' cards through monetary rewards. The plot, he noted, is designed to cause massive dislocation of registered voters from their place of registration — moving them from one town to another — making it impossible for them to vote on election day.
In some local governments, APC agents are reportedly insisting that voters swear an oath before receiving inducements in exchange for PIN numbers or photocopies of their cards.
"I task the electoral body not to look the other way. We have reports of insider collusion which we are still investigating. Any link between the PIN numbers on the voters' card and manipulations of the voting process is a source of concern for us. We trust the electoral body to act," the governor stated.
"My dear people of Osun State, don't sell your voters' cards. Your cards are your power to vote and elect your leaders on August 15 and beyond. Osun APC wants to stop you from voting. Don't submit your cards," the governor urged.
The governor called on INEC to immediately wade into the matter, describing the activities as criminal practices and a breach of the provisions of the Electoral Act.
