TICC to Osun Police Commissioner: Release Unedited Video of Ipetu-Ijesa Attack Suspect
The Imole Campaign Council challenges Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan to release the complete, unedited video of the July 2 press parade of suspect Olamilekan Oriyomi, citing credible intelligence that the suspect's spontaneous account contradicted the police's prepared statement, and calls on the IGP to probe alleged conspiracy and diversionary tactics.
The Imole Campaign Council has issued an open challenge to the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr Ibrahim Gotan, to immediately make public the complete, unedited video recording of the press briefing held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, during which one Olamilekan Oriyomi was paraded as the purported suspect in the alleged attack on the Director-General of the AMBO Campaign Organisation.
The Council stated that credible intelligence at its disposal suggests the narrative being pushed by the Osun State Police Command is riddled with disturbing inconsistencies, including information that Olamilekan Oriyomi was in fact invited by the Director-General of the AMBO Campaign Organisation to the APC political gathering at Ipetu-Ijesa, where he was found to be in possession of a lethal firearm.
More disturbing, according to the Council, is intelligence that the interaction between journalists and the suspect during the press parade exposed glaring contradictions between what the suspect was saying and the prepared statement earlier read by the Commissioner of Police — and that the interview session was abruptly interrupted by police operatives the moment the suspect's spontaneous narration diverged from the official script.
"If the Osun State Police Command has absolutely nothing to hide, Mr Ibrahim Gotan should have no difficulty whatsoever releasing the complete and unedited video footage of that press briefing. Selective editing, suppression or concealment of portions of that briefing will only reinforce the growing suspicion that the Police Command is desperately struggling to sustain a carefully manufactured narrative," the Council stated.
The Council noted it is a matter of public knowledge that the father of one of those arrested, Olamilekan Oriyomi — known by his alias JAASI — is a chieftain of the APC in Ipetu-Ijesa, raising further questions about the Commissioner's attempt to twist the facts of the incident.
Should the Commissioner fail to release the complete video within the shortest possible time, TICC called on IGP Rilwan Olatunji Disu to constitute an independent investigative team to probe what appears to be an alleged conspiracy between the Osun State Police Commissioner and the APC to fabricate a false narrative capable of implicating innocent Accord leaders across Ijesaland and Osun State at large.
"The Nigeria Police Force cannot afford to become an instrument for political propaganda, nor should any Commissioner of Police be permitted to deploy the powers and privileges of his office in aid of any political interest. The Inspector-General must act swiftly and decisively," the Council affirmed.
